We’ve finally recovered from all the excitement of Welcome Week 2015 and figured we’d share some of the highlights with you.

To keep the spirit of summer alive we brought the tunes and tons of cold ones out on to the UofR’s backyard! We love our patio at the Owl but sadly it’s wasn’t big enough for the party we’ve had planned so we set up in the centre of campus on the Dr. Lloyd Barber Academic Green aka ‘the Green’. Then we kicked back to enjoy music, movies, and much more during a week that would be remembered for a lifetime!

Welcome Week Wednesday kicked off with our Club Fair in the Research & Innovation Centre (RIC) Atrium. It was a great chance to meet all of our Student Clubs, Associations and Support Centres and find out about all of the exciting, informative and awesome things they do throughout the year and within our community.

Our Students Societies took over the Green on Wednesday and filled the air with a Carnival-like atmosphere that provided its ‘fare’ share of fun as games, goodies and great times! New and returning students got to mingle with our student societies and find out more about our campus community….while racing head-to-head in Bungee Runners, taking on the Big Baller run or flipping out on the Velcro Wall!

The Green was also the spot to grab some great grub to stay fuelled up during all the festivities to come. The Big Brothers Foundation of Saskatchewan and the United Way grilled up some burgers and hotdogs for the hungry crowds on Wednesday and Thursday. For those looking for more tasty solutions to there was Panago Pizza and Fritou Chicken. To work off the calories from their latest food fix we made sure plenty of students got in some cardio from a round of Knockerballs.

What went down Wednesday Night? Trivia Night at the Owl is what, where the best and brightest gathered to share some knowledge and some laughs. Students got to show their extensive and valuable knowledge of TV characters, songs from the 90s and movie quotes! Speaking of movies, we had the biggest one of the summer, as we brought Jurassic World to the big screen out on the big Green. We provided the popcorn and the prehistoric mayhem, all students had to do was bring a chair or blanket to sit on/hide behind.

Thursday night was capped off by a stylish soiree at the Owl where revellers dressed to impress. Casino Royale gave all the Kings and Queens the chance to suit up and dazzle like diamonds. There were casino games for those who felt lucky and solid gold grooves for those who felt funky.

The week finished off with more Activities on the Green Friday and more music into the night. Wolf Saga and the Gaff got things started and then, as the evening sun gave way to stars and glowsticks, the Funk Hunters blew up our Mini Music Festival with their big beats, big beats and a show like no other! The party continued with the always-popular, always awesome Dollar Draft at the Owl!

There was too too much to fit into one blog post so check out our Facebook page to reminisce on some of those hazy memories and unbelievable nights!
